Alexander Isak’s high-profile switch from Newcastle United to Liverpool over the summer may have stirred months of speculation, but former Magpies investor Amanda Staveley insists there are no hard feelings — and even believes the striker is destined to thrive at Anfield.
Liverpool eventually secured the Swedish forward after a long transfer chase, bringing his impressive spell at St James’ Park to an end. During his time on Tyneside, Isak netted 62 goals and supplied 11 assists in 109 appearances, quickly becoming a fan favourite. But despite his popularity, the striker made it clear he wanted a new challenge under Arne Slot.
Reports from Chronicle Live revealed that Isak spent much of pre-season away from full team training, missing friendly fixtures before his big-money deadline-day move worth around £125 million.
Since arriving at Liverpool, the 26-year-old has struggled to hit the ground running. His only goal so far came in a Carabao Cup tie against Southampton, and he remains without a Premier League strike for the Reds this season. Even so, Staveley believes the forward will soon rediscover his form.
Speaking to Sky Sports while attending the Chris Eubank Jr vs Conor Benn II event at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Staveley said she and her husband, Mehrdad Ghodoussi, still hold the striker in high regard.
> “We adore Alex, and we’re certain he’ll shine at Liverpool. He’s a fantastic talent, and Liverpool have brought in an exceptional player,”
she said — adding that she is equally delighted with how Newcastle’s current attack is performing.
Following Isak’s departure, Newcastle acted quickly by snapping up Nick Woltemade from Stuttgart. The young German has made an instant impact, scoring four goals in his opening eight league games.
Isak, meanwhile, has seen his early months at Anfield disrupted by a groin issue. After returning to action for Sweden — playing just over 30 minutes in a 4-1 loss to Switzerland — he admitted that injuries have made the transition frustrating.
The striker told Sportbladet that he hopes to be fully fit for Sweden’s upcoming meeting with Slovenia, saying:
> “It hasn’t been ideal, but I never look for excuses. Being out is tough, but I’m positive now and ready to get going again.”
Liverpool return to Premier League duty on November 22 when they welcome Nottingham Forest to Anfield. They then face PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League before a trip to West Ham.
With the Reds sitting eighth after a heavy 3–0 defeat to Manchester City, Isak will be eager to help spark a turnaround and justify the club’s major investment in him.
