Alexander Isak appears to be edging closer to the Newcastle United exit door — and Liverpool are watching closely. The Swedish forward has reportedly informed the Magpies of his intention to seek new opportunities elsewhere, marking a major twist in this summer’s transfer window drama.
While Newcastle had previously slapped a hefty £150 million valuation on their star striker, making any deal seem unlikely, Liverpool’s interest hasn’t gone cold. After briefly pivoting towards a move for French striker Hugo Ekitike, valued around £79 million, the Reds are now back in the conversation for Isak — and may even consider smashing the British transfer record once again to land him.
The timing of Isak’s request has only added fuel to the fire. The striker was left out of Newcastle’s pre-season tour of Asia due to a supposed thigh issue. But behind the scenes, sources suggest the decision may be linked more to his uncertain future than a fitness concern. Eddie Howe, aware of the speculation, reportedly sent Isak home before their recent pre-season clash with Celtic.
Isak’s camp is also believed to be seeking a new contract with improved terms, aiming for a weekly wage in the region of £300,000 — significantly higher than Newcastle’s reported offer of £200,000. With no agreement in sight, the door for an exit may have creaked open.
A History of Bold Moves
Isak’s willingness to take bold steps in his career isn’t new. Speaking about his early move from Sweden to Germany at just 17, he once remarked:

Following Newcastle’s win over the Reds in the Carabao Cup final earlier this year, he commented on how much he enjoyed playing against Arne Slot’s team, praising their high pressing and attacking style — elements that align with his strengths as a forward.

It’s those very traits that drew him to Newcastle in the first place. Back then, he cited their exciting project and passionate fanbase as major reasons for his move. But now, with Newcastle’s wage structure posing a potential roadblock and Liverpool reportedly ready to pounce, Isak’s next move may be on the horizon.
Whether Liverpool will meet Newcastle’s valuation or whether a surprise bidder will emerge, one thing is clear: Isak’s time on Tyneside might be coming to an end.
