With the transfer window edging toward its final days, the future of Alexander Isak has once again taken center stage. The Swedish striker has reportedly doubled down on his desire to leave Newcastle United, despite face-to-face talks with key figures from the club’s ownership group.
According to reports, a delegation from the Public Investment Fund, alongside co-owner Jamie Reuben, visited Isak at his home ahead of Newcastle’s clash with Liverpool at St James’ Park. The meeting was meant to clarify his stance after weeks of speculation — but the 25-year-old remains resolute in pushing for a move to Anfield.
Earlier this month, Liverpool lodged a £110 million bid for the forward, only for Newcastle to reject it. The decision sparked tension, with Isak later issuing a statement accusing the club of going back on promises made to him. He insisted that trust had been broken and claimed the relationship had become untenable.
Since then, Isak has refused to feature for Newcastle, missing games against both Aston Villa and Liverpool, in what is widely seen as a form of protest. The Telegraph suggests the player is prepared to extend his strike until he gets his desired transfer.
Liverpool, meanwhile, are said to be weighing up a second approach but are reluctant to move closer to Newcastle’s £150 million valuation unless there are signs the board is willing to negotiate.
Newcastle, however, remain defiant. In a strongly worded response to Isak’s claims, the club insisted no agreement had ever been made allowing him to leave this summer. They stressed that while they respect players’ opinions, decisions must be made in the best interest of the club, the team, and the fans.
Club officials added that they do not expect the conditions for a sale to be met, reaffirming their commitment to keeping Isak as part of their long-term plans.
As deadline day looms, the standoff between Isak and Newcastle shows no signs of easing — leaving Liverpool and their supporters anxiously awaiting the next move.
