Liverpool’s record signing Alexander Isak has spoken openly about his current fitness levels as fans eagerly await his debut in the famous red shirt.

The Swedish striker, who sealed a blockbuster move from Newcastle United this summer, admitted that his preparations for the season were far from smooth. A disrupted pre-season has left him carefully managing his return to full sharpness.

When asked about the possibility of featuring against Burnley after the international break, Isak said:

> “That’s definitely the aim. But I had a difficult summer — no matches, limited training. It’s something we’ll need to assess in terms of where I’m at physically and how much I can give. Still, I want to play as soon as possible.”

His comments highlight both his determination to hit the ground running and the need for Liverpool’s medical and coaching staff to take a cautious approach.

Isak arrives with a huge reputation, having scored 27 goals last season for Newcastle before his £100m-plus transfer — a British-record fee. His signing is part of a sweeping rebuild under Arne Slot that has also brought in Hugo Ekitike in attack and Florian Wirtz in midfield.

The move, however, wasn’t without drama. The drawn-out transfer saga saw Isak sidelined from Newcastle’s pre-season activities, leaving him short on match sharpness ahead of his Anfield bow.

For Slot, the challenge now is to blend these new arrivals into a squad that just lifted the Premier League title. The upcoming run of fixtures, starting with Burnley, will be pivotal in shaping Liverpool’s campaign.

Isak’s honesty about his fitness may be refreshing, but ultimately, it will be his goals that define whether he lives up to the hype surrounding his record-breaking transfer.

🔴 Liverpool fans are counting down the days — will Burnley be the stage for Alexander Isak’s long-awaited debut?
