Harvey Elliott joined Aston Villa on loan three months ago, with the agreement set to become permanent once he reaches 10 appearances for Unai Emery’s team. But the move has stalled badly.
The 22-year-old has featured just five times for Villa, and tomorrow marks two months since his most recent appearance. He hasn’t even made a Premier League matchday squad since mid-October, sparking claims that his time at Villa Park may already be over.
Despite being on Villa’s books for the season, Elliott remains officially a Liverpool player — and one top-flight club may now be preparing to step in.
West Ham monitoring Elliott’s situation
According to a report in the print edition of the Sunday Mirror (30 November, p.65, via West Ham Zone), West Ham United are keeping close tabs on Elliott and are considering a move for him next summer.
A January return to Liverpool hasn’t been dismissed either, especially if his exile continues. RB Leipzig are also believed to be watching developments involving the England U21 star.
Should Liverpool bring him back?
With Emery appearing unwilling to give Elliott the five more appearances required to complete a permanent transfer, Liverpool may need to rethink their stance.
Although he wasn’t a regular starter under Arne Slot last season, the young midfielder still managed to play 28 matches and remained involved from the bench. Villa, by contrast, seem to have no plan to use him at all.
Elliott’s future at Villa Park looks non-existent, and unless Liverpool recall him and attempt to reintegrate him into Slot’s squad, he may struggle to add to his 149 games for the Reds.
A crossroads for Elliott’s career
The talented youngster is far too gifted to spend a season on the margins, and West Ham could benefit greatly if they’re able to secure a deal — provided they stay in the Premier League and can finance a long-term move.
Ideally, Elliott would return to Anfield and rebuild his Liverpool career. But realistically, a permanent transfer in 2026 seems more likely. The hope for all sides is that he eventually lands at a club where his potential can flourish consistently.
