Liverpool have confirmed that promising midfielder Luca Stephenson will spend the 2025/26 season back on loan at Dundee United — a move described as a “priority” signing for the Scottish side.
The 21-year-old, who impressed in three of the Reds’ recent pre-season games under Arne Slot, returns to familiar ground after making 34 appearances for Dundee United last term.
Manager Jim Goodwin couldn’t hide his excitement over the deal, praising Stephenson’s leadership, versatility, and tireless work rate:

Goodwin’s admiration stems from the midfielder’s incredible determination — last season, Stephenson played four months with a double hernia, yet still delivered standout performances.
Now entering his third straight loan spell, the Durham-born player will be aiming to build on last year’s success and return to Anfield ready to compete for a first-team place. With Liverpool’s midfield packed with competition, breaking through won’t be easy — but if his grit and endurance in Scotland are anything to go by, Stephenson is more than up for the fight.
