Former Newcastle United boss Alan Pardew has accused Alexander Isak of trying to “hold the club to ransom” as speculation over a move to Liverpool intensifies.
The Swedish striker, who joined the Magpies three years ago, is said to have made it clear he wants a new challenge away from Tyneside. Liverpool have already tested the waters with a £110 million bid — swiftly rejected by Newcastle — and are yet to return with an improved offer.
Isak has not featured in any of Newcastle’s pre-season matches, skipping the club’s summer tour and training alone while the saga unfolds. Despite the growing tension, Pardew believes the move is unlikely to happen.
Speaking on The Final Word with Majestic, he said:
> “I can’t see this transfer getting done now. Newcastle will dig their heels in — they’re angry, and if I were on their board, I’d be the same. The price could spiral into something ridiculous.”
The Magpies kick off their Premier League campaign next week against Aston Villa, but there’s a real chance they’ll be without their star forward — even if he’s reintegrated, his lack of pre-season action could be a major setback.
