Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk believes there’s still space for more firepower in the squad — even after a summer transfer splurge of nearly £300 million.
The Reds have already secured six new signings ahead of their Premier League title defence, but high-profile departures have left gaps in attack. Darwin Nunez completed a move to Saudi side Al Hilal, while Luis Diaz joined Bayern Munich.
Speaking after Liverpool’s Community Shield clash against Crystal Palace — where new boys Hugo Ekitike and Jeremie Frimpong both found the net in a 2-2 draw before a 3-2 penalty shootout defeat — Van Dijk admitted losing two key forwards might warrant another addition up front.
> “We’ve lost Darwin to Saudi and Lucho to Bayern. There’s always room for another attacker to give us more strength. Let’s see what happens before the window closes,” the skipper told talkSPORT at Wembley.
Liverpool have been linked with Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, but their £110m bid plus add-ons was turned down. For now, the Magpies are holding firm, and a deal appears unlikely.
Interestingly, manager Arne Slot seems less convinced about the need for another forward, hinting that the club may already have enough attacking options.
