Luis Diaz’s big-money switch from Liverpool to Bayern Munich has taken a dramatic twist, as some Reds supporters have turned on the Colombian star following his first press conference in Germany.
The 28-year-old winger sealed a £65.5 million move to the Bundesliga champions, signing a four-year contract under new head coach Vincent Kompany. His exit came despite having two years remaining on his Anfield deal.
During his Liverpool spell, Diaz made 148 appearances, scoring 41 goals and playing a vital role in securing four trophies — including the Premier League, FA Cup, and two Carabao Cups. Once adored by fans, his latest remarks have left a bitter taste for many.
Unveiled as Bayern’s new signing, Diaz spoke with excitement about the challenge ahead. “I’m very happy to be at such a great club,” he said. “The welcome has been amazing, and I can’t wait to get started.”
However, it was his follow-up statement that sparked anger on Merseyside: “I came to Bayern because it fits my personal ambitions. I have big goals, and I want to be in a team aiming to win everything.”
To some Liverpool fans, those words hinted at a slight against his former side. Social media reactions quickly followed:
