Liverpool’s talisman has publicly pressed UEFA for clarity following the tragic death of Palestinian football icon Suleiman Al-Obeid.
UEFA had posted a tribute calling Al-Obeid the “Palestinian Pele,” recognising his remarkable career and the hope he inspired in young players even in times of hardship. However, the 41-year-old reportedly lost his life in an Israeli attack while waiting for humanitarian aid — leaving behind his wife and five children.
Sharing UEFA’s post, Salah posed a direct and pointed question:
> “Can you tell us how he died, where, and why?”
Al-Obeid’s career spanned over 100 goals for clubs in Gaza and the West Bank, multiple league titles, and a highlight-reel scissors kick for Palestine against Yemen in the 2010 West Asian Championship.
The Palestinian Football Association says more than 660 people involved in sports — including over 320 in football — have died during the ongoing conflict. Gaza, meanwhile, is facing a severe hunger crisis due to strict aid restrictions.
This isn’t the first time Salah has spoken out about the war. In 2023, he called the scenes in Gaza “horrifying” following Israeli military actions.
