Paul Scholes Tips ‘Ideal’ Defender for Liverpool – And It’s Not Isak! 👀

Liverpool may already be turning heads with their busy transfer window, but one Manchester United legend believes they’ve still got room for one more perfect addition… and it’s not the name fans might expect.

Paul Scholes has thrown his weight behind a potential move for Crystal Palace star Marc Guehi, calling the England international a “perfect fit” for the Reds as they gear up for the 2025/26 campaign.

🛑 Not Isak, Not a Forward – but a Defender!

While speculation has been swirling around Liverpool’s attacking reinforcements this summer, Scholes has shifted the conversation to the backline. With Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, and Giorgi Mamardashvili already reinforcing the defence, Scholes believes Guehi could complete the puzzle.

Speaking on The Overlap, he said:

> “Palace fans might not like it, but Guehi would be absolutely perfect. You’re looking at a £50m price tag even with his contract winding down, but for me, he’s worth it.”

🚨 Context Behind the Call

Liverpool have made six signings so far, while saying goodbye to nine players – including Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jarell Quansah. With Konaté’s contract set to expire in 2026 and interest from Real Madrid reportedly building, the Reds might soon need another reliable centre-half.

Guehi, who’s proven himself as a rock in Palace’s backline and a regular in the England squad, fits the bill as a left-sided centre-back with Premier League experience – exactly what Scholes believes Liverpool are missing.

⚽ Guehi’s Journey So Far

A product of Chelsea’s famed Cobham academy, Guehi got his first taste of senior football during two successful loan spells at Swansea City. After failing to break into the Chelsea first team, he made the permanent switch to Crystal Palace, where he’s now a leader and fan favourite.

With over 150 appearances for the South London club and more than 20 caps for England, Guehi has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most consistent young defenders.

🔥 Big Six Ready?

Having captained Crystal Palace and impressed at international level, Guehi looks more than ready for the next step in his career. The only question is – will Liverpool make their move before someone else does?
