Darwin Núñez Nearing Liverpool Exit as Al Hilal Close In on €70m Deal

Liverpool striker Darwin Núñez could be on his way out of Anfield, with reports suggesting Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal are closing in on a deal worth around €70m (£61m).

Transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano revealed that a verbal agreement has been reached between the clubs, leaving the final decision with Núñez as talks over personal terms continue. Al Hilal manager Filippo Inzaghi is said to have made the Uruguayan forward his top priority this summer.

Núñez, who arrived at Liverpool in 2022 for a club-record £85m, has faced criticism for inconsistency in front of goal despite scoring 40 times in 143 appearances across all competitions. His strike in the 4-1 friendly win over Athletic Bilbao earlier this week could prove to be his last for the Reds.

According to reports, Aleksandar Mitrović may leave Al Hilal to make way for Núñez, with the Saudi club’s financial power ensuring Liverpool’s asking price isn’t a stumbling block.

Should the deal go through, Liverpool could step up their pursuit of Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak, a long-term target for the Premier League champions. Newcastle, meanwhile, are exploring striker options after top target Benjamin Šeško reportedly moved closer to a transfer to Manchester United, who have bid €75m plus add-ons.

With the transfer window ticking down, Núñez’s future looks set to be one of the summer’s biggest stories.
