Liverpool have officially confirmed the departure of academy graduate Tyler Morton, who has completed a permanent move to French side Lyon.

The 22-year-old midfielder leaves Anfield after 17 years with the Reds, joining the Ligue 1 outfit for a reported £15m fee, which also includes a 20% sell-on clause.

Robertson’s Heartfelt Message

Morton’s farewell post on Instagram sparked an outpouring of support from current and former teammates. Among those to send their well-wishes was Liverpool vice-captain Andy Robertson, who commented:

> “Go and smash it, my mate.”



Young striker Lewis Koumas also added:

> “Special player, all the best Ty.”



Jarell Quansah, who left Liverpool earlier in the summer, was another to offer his support.

A Talented Player Who Faced Tough Competition

Despite making a handful of first-team appearances, Morton’s chances of regular football were always limited due to Liverpool’s stacked midfield options. Ryan Gravenberch, Wataru Endo, and the highly-rated but currently injured Stefan Bajcetic have all been ahead in the pecking order.

With Lyon promising consistent game time, this transfer could be crucial for Morton’s development and career progression.

A Smart Piece of Business

Liverpool’s recruitment team continues to balance big spending with shrewd sales. The club has already generated close to £145m this summer, even before Darwin Núñez’s expected transfer to Al-Hilal, which could bring in an additional £46m plus add-ons.

Although fans will be sad to see Morton go, there’s no doubt this deal benefits both the player and the club.
