Liverpool

What Did That Mean? Fans React to Nunez’s Cryptic Social Media Post After Anfield Friendly

Speculation around Darwin Núñez’s future has intensified after a curious social media post shared shortly after Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Athletic Club at Anfield. The Uruguayan forward, who found the net in Monday’s pre-season clash, stirred emotions with a simple yet powerful post that left fans guessing.

Despite persistent rumours linking him with a potential move away from Merseyside—most notably to Saudi Pro League giants Al Hilal—Núñez was named in Arne Slot’s starting XI and delivered a sharp performance, scoring Liverpool’s second goal of the afternoon.

🗣️ Shortly after full-time, Núñez posted several matchday images on social media, accompanied by a lone heart emoji. While the gesture might seem harmless to some, many fans took it as a subtle farewell.

One supporter wrote:
“Forever my hermano, keep going Darwin. YNWA.”

Another added:
“Whatever happens, we’ll always be grateful for your time at the club.”

Some, however, were more emotional:
“I’m on my knees for you to stay!”

🔥 The 26-year-old now has five goals in pre-season—matching his Premier League tally from last season—thanks to a hat trick against Stoke City and another strike against Preston earlier in the summer.

But with the transfer window set to close on September 1, questions continue to loom large. If Núñez is indeed on his way out, it could pave the way for Hugo Ekitike and top target Alexander Isak to step in.

Reports suggest Isak’s agent may have been present at Anfield on Monday, further fuelling talk of an imminent switch. Though not yet confirmed, signs are beginning to point towards a changing of the guard up front for the Reds.

⚽ Could Núñez’s quiet gesture signal the end of his time at Liverpool? Or is it simply a moment of reflection from a player committed to the cause? The answer may come sooner than expected…
