Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon has addressed the swirling transfer saga surrounding teammate Alexander Isak—speaking just moments before a significant twist in the striker’s future came to light.

With Isak reportedly pushing for a summer move away from St James’ Park, Liverpool have emerged as a serious contender for his signature. The Swedish forward has even requested to be excluded from Newcastle’s pre-season tour, further fueling speculation of an imminent exit.

Reliable sources, including David Ornstein of The Athletic, have indicated that Liverpool’s opening bid—exceeding £100 million—was swiftly rejected by Newcastle, who are standing firm on their valuation. While Newcastle continue their preparations in Asia without their star striker, Gordon offered his thoughts in an interview with The Daily Mail, becoming the first squad member to publicly comment on the situation.

“I completely get where Alex is coming from,” Gordon admitted. “Honestly, this is the first summer in about three years that I haven’t been involved in transfer speculation—and it’s been so mentally freeing.”

He added, “That’s why I empathize with him. It’s not easy. He’s likely dealing with a lot internally, and the club is too. I just hope everything works out for all sides involved.”

Gordon also reflected on his own past brush with transfer uncertainty, acknowledging that a proposed return to Merseyside last year didn’t materialize. “That talk was real,” he confirmed. “I won’t lie. It was mentally tough—especially coming off a difficult Euros where I barely played. I thought a move would happen, but it didn’t. I had to quickly refocus, and that wasn’t easy.”
