Frustrated Liverpool Fans Urge Club to Cut Ties with Striker Despite 3-1 Victory

Liverpool continued their pre-season tour with a 3-1 win over Yokohama F. Marinos, but the final score did little to calm a growing storm among the fanbase. While Arne Slot’s side showed moments of quality—particularly with Florian Wirtz inspiring a second-half turnaround—it was the performance of one forward that sparked outrage online.

Despite the comfortable scoreline, many supporters took to social media to express their frustration with Darwin Nunez, who replaced Hugo Ekitike at halftime. The Uruguayan striker, who joined Liverpool in a high-profile move, once again came under fire after a missed opportunity that has since gone viral.

📉 Fans Lose Patience with Nunez

In the now widely-shared clip, Mohamed Salah delivers a pinpoint cross into the box. Nunez times his run well, but instead of finishing with his stronger foot, he opts for his right and sends the ball wayward—much to the dismay of Reds supporters.

One furious fan posted: “Just rip up his contract.” Another went even further, saying: “The day Nunez leaves will be one of the happiest of my life.”

Despite registering 40 goals and 26 assists across 143 appearances for Liverpool, sections of the fanbase believe it’s time for a change. “No matter how sharp he looks in pre-season, he’s not cut out to lead this team,” one supporter claimed.

🔥 Calls for Isak to Replace Him

Some fans believe Liverpool should pursue a new forward before the season kicks off—with Alexander Isak emerging as the popular alternative. “Sell Nunez. Bring in Isak. Whatever it takes,” one user declared, reflecting a growing sentiment among supporters.

Others questioned whether the striker has earned another season at Anfield. “Nothing he’s done in the last three seasons suggests he deserves to stay,” one comment read. Another simply put: “He’s so bad, man. All that space and he still fluffed it.”

⚽ Slot Faces a Striker Dilemma

With new signing Hugo Ekitike making his first start and impressing in spells, the competition for the No. 9 spot is heating up. Arne Slot, who is preparing for his first full season in charge, must now decide whether to stick with Nunez or begin looking for a new leading man.

While results may not carry much weight in pre-season, performances do—and for many Liverpool fans, one player has already run out of chances.
