Wirtz and Frimpong Clear the Air Over Viral Leverkusen Clip — “People Got It Wrong!” 🔴⚡

New Liverpool signings Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong have addressed a moment from earlier this year that sparked online speculation — but it turns out the truth is far from what many assumed.
🎥 During a Champions League clash in March, cameras caught the pair animated on Bayer Leverkusen’s bench after they were subbed off during a heavy 3-0 loss to Bayern Munich. Viewers quickly jumped to conclusions, interpreting their gestures as a heated dispute between teammates.
But now settled on Merseyside following a combined £150 million move, the duo has set the record straight.
Speaking on Liverpool’s official YouTube series Bezzies while on the club’s Asia tour, Wirtz was shown the footage and instantly reacted:
> “This is wrong! People misunderstood completely.”
Frimpong nodded in agreement:
“We were actually saying the same thing. I saw this clip all over social media — but it wasn’t a fight.”
The fiery exchange was, in fact, a shared frustration at how the game was unfolding, not a clash between them. Wirtz explained:
> “We were behind, and emotions were high. That’s what people saw — not an argument.”
🌟 The chemistry between the two goes way back. Frimpong recalled their first meeting in the Leverkusen dressing room:
> “I already knew who Flo was from watching him. When he sat next to me, he just started talking. From then, it clicked.”
Their bond only grew stronger over five seasons together — and it’s now continuing in Liverpool red. Wirtz spoke fondly of Frimpong’s character:
> “Jeremie is someone everyone loves. He’s always in a good mood and full of energy.”
🛡️ Under Xabi Alonso’s management, the pair played a pivotal role in Leverkusen’s unbeaten Bundesliga title-winning campaign in 2023/24. The club also lifted the DFB-Pokal but missed out on a treble after a surprise Europa League final defeat to Atalanta.
Last season, Leverkusen couldn’t maintain that magic — finishing well behind Bayern and ending without silverware. But Wirtz and Frimpong now begin a new chapter at Anfield, bringing their talents and friendship to a Liverpool side undergoing a summer transformation.
👉 One viral moment may have caused confusion, but the message from the players is now loud and clear: no drama — just passion.
