✍️ Hugo Ekitike Explains Why Liverpool Was Always His Top Choice – Despite Other Offers 👀

Liverpool’s latest marquee signing, Hugo Ekitike, has broken his silence after sealing a high-profile move from Eintracht Frankfurt in a deal worth an initial £69 million.

While several top clubs circled — including a late approach from Manchester United and interest from Chelsea and Newcastle — the 23-year-old French forward revealed that Anfield was the only destination that truly mattered to him.

🔴 “It just felt right,” Ekitike explained. “Everything I’d heard about the club – from the people, the environment, the supporters, the way players are developed – made Liverpool stand out.”

He didn’t stop there.

🏆 “They’re already Premier League champions. They’re the best in the country, and among the best in the world. Choosing Liverpool wasn’t difficult at all.”

🔁 Arne Slot’s Personal Touch Sealed the Deal

Though Liverpool’s interest reportedly dated back to January, it was a recent conversation with manager Arne Slot that truly convinced Ekitike.

📣 “After speaking to the coach, I had no doubts. His vision, his ability to develop players, and the genuine connection during our chat made me sure that this was where I needed to be.”

The former PSG and Reims man described Slot as more than just a tactician — someone he believes can elevate his game on and off the pitch.

⚽ Not Just a Striker – Ekitike’s Versatility Gives Liverpool Options

Though known for his striking abilities, Ekitike doesn’t see himself as a traditional No.9. He thrives when involved in build-up play and enjoys drifting into different attacking roles.

🔥 “I’m not someone who just stays up front to finish. I like to get involved, create, combine. Whether it’s as a lone striker or alongside another, I can adapt.”

As Liverpool continue to explore other attacking additions — with Newcastle’s Alexander Isak still on their radar — Ekitike remains unfazed.

🙌 “Whatever the coach wants me to do, I’ll do. I enjoy every part of the attacking phase and I’m always willing to adapt to help the team.”

🇫🇷 Childhood Dreams, Street Football & Showboating Skills

Ekitike also touched on his love for flair, tracing it back to his early days playing street football. ⚡

🗣️ “Since school, I’ve always been the one doing tricks, enjoying the game. I admire players who love having the ball and making magic happen with their feet. That’s my identity.”

💰 A Busy Summer for Liverpool

Ekitike is now the seventh signing in a transfer window that’s seen Liverpool’s spending approach £300 million. The Reds are clearly going all-in under Arne Slot, aiming to build on their title-winning campaign.

🗨️ “You just look around – the squad is packed with talent. I’m excited to play alongside them and challenge myself to reach the same level, or even go beyond it,” Ekitike told LiverpoolFC.com.

🎯 “Liverpool are already elite, but we’re not satisfied. There’s more to aim for. This club always wants to get better, and I want to be part of that.”

🌏 First Tour, Then Anfield Dreams

Having linked up with his new teammates in Hong Kong, Ekitike could make his debut in the upcoming friendly against AC Milan, followed by a clash with Yokohama F. Marinos.

But one thing is on his mind more than anything — stepping onto the hallowed turf of Anfield. 🏟️

🤩 “Anfield? It’s insane! I’ve only seen it on TV, and it already gives me goosebumps. I can’t wait to experience the atmosphere for real – and score my first goal there. That would be unreal.”
