Liverpool have officially announced their 29-man squad set to travel for their highly anticipated preseason tour in Asia, with stops in Hong Kong and Japan. But fans were quick to notice a surprising omission — Federico Chiesa is not on the flight.
The Italian winger, who recently found the net in a closed-door 5-0 win over Stoke City at the AXA Training Centre, has been left behind on Merseyside as the club monitors a minor issue. It’s another frustrating blow for Chiesa, whose Liverpool career has yet to catch fire since joining from Juventus last August. Game time has been limited under Arne Slot, and speculation around his long-term future continues to swirl.
🆕 New Faces, New Hopes
Among the traveling squad are Liverpool’s latest signings: Florian Wirtz, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, and goalkeeper Freddie Woodman. Wirtz even made a mark in that Stoke City win, while Darwin Nunez stole the show with a hat-trick.
Midfielder Alexis Mac Allister returns after a spell out since mid-May, joined by Alisson Becker and Luis Diaz, both of whom are yet to feature in any preseason fixtures.
💫 Young Talents Get Their Shot
With no major international tournaments this summer, Liverpool have brought a near full-strength squad — meaning limited spaces for academy players. However, a few promising prospects have made the cut, including Rio Ngumoha, Ben Doak, Trey Nyoni, and Luca Stephenson. New 20-year-old goalkeeper Armin Pecsi and academy keeper Kornel Misciur are also part of the group.
Meanwhile, Harvey Elliott and Tyler Morton are back from their extended break following their role in England’s UEFA U21 Euro triumph. Stefan Bajcetic is still in recovery following hamstring surgery.
📉 Notable Absences Raise Eyebrows
Jayden Danns has not been included, despite being fit — adding fuel to rumours of a potential loan switch, with Sunderland reportedly keen again after a previous move was derailed by injury. James McConnell also misses out due to a slight fitness concern.
