Liverpool’s summer revamp is showing no signs of slowing down under new boss Arne Slot. Having already landed big names like Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez, and Jeremie Frimpong, the Reds are now making moves to bolster their defensive line — with Marc Guehi firmly in their sights.
Fresh off a title-winning season, Liverpool are keen to strengthen from a position of dominance. While stars like Trent Alexander-Arnold and Caoimhin Kelleher have departed, and Giorgi Mamardashvili officially arrived after a long wait, the reshaping of the squad is still underway.
According to recent developments, Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi is edging closer to a switch to Anfield. The London club, who were demanding as much as £70 million for him last year, are now believed to be open to offers in the region of £40 million — with the player entering the final year of his current deal.
Guehi, who has become a central figure both at Palace and in the England national team, recently earned his 23rd international cap and helped guide the Eagles to FA Cup glory. His leadership qualities and composure at the back have reportedly impressed the Anfield recruitment team, who see him as a potential replacement for Jarell Quansah, who may head the opposite way to Leverkusen.
Meanwhile, Chelsea are expected to benefit financially if the deal goes through, thanks to a 20% sell-on clause from when Guehi left Stamford Bridge. That clause could earn the Blues an £8 million boost — money that could support their own transfer plans under new manager Enzo Maresca, who is targeting Borussia Dortmund’s Jamie Gittens.
On the departure front, Darwin Nunez’s future remains uncertain. The Uruguayan striker, who joined from Benfica in 2022, is reportedly open to a move after a mixed campaign. Napoli are leading the chase but are currently unwilling to meet Liverpool’s £70 million valuation, offering closer to £50 million. With negotiations ongoing, Nunez may need to wait a bit longer before his Anfield exit is confirmed.
Liverpool fans can expect more twists and turns as the summer window unfolds, with both arrivals and exits still very much on the cards.
