Liverpool youngster Tyler Morton has opened up about the painful moment he learned he would be suspended for England’s crucial U21 European Championship semi-final against the Netherlands.

The Young Lions secured a dominant 3-1 victory over Spain in Trnava on Saturday night, booking their place in the final four. A rapid start saw James McAtee break the deadlock in the 10th minute, followed shortly by a well-taken goal from Liverpool’s Harvey Elliott. A late penalty from Elliot Anderson sealed the win for Lee Carsley’s side.

But amid the celebrations, Morton was hit with devastating news — a yellow card he received during the first half meant he would miss the next game due to suspension, having already been booked earlier in the tournament.

Speaking after the match, Morton admitted he was unaware of the consequence during the game:

> “I didn’t know until after the final whistle. I was so focused on the match. Honestly, I don’t even think it was a yellow, but it’s done now,” he said.
“I’ll be fully behind the boys on Wednesday. I just have to regroup and stay ready.”



England will now face Michael Reiziger’s Netherlands side in the semi-final, with Morton forced to watch from the sidelines in what would have been a major opportunity to shine on the international stage.
