Teen sensation Rio Ngumoha is grabbing headlines once again as he continues to shine during Liverpool’s pre-season tour in Asia. The 16-year-old winger delivered a jaw-dropping solo goal in the Reds’ 3-1 victory over Yokohama F. Marinos, reinforcing his growing reputation after previously assisting against AC Milan.

Since arriving from Chelsea last year, Ngumoha has steadily built momentum, impressing in earlier matches against Preston and Stoke City. With senior star Luis Diaz sidelined amid his impending £65.5m move to Bayern Munich, the door has opened wide for the youngster to step up—and he’s not wasting a second of it.

Despite starting on the bench against Yokohama, Ngumoha made an instant impact and revealed post-match how one particular senior figure has been instrumental in his development.

> “It was a special night. Coming on and scoring felt amazing,” Ngumoha said. “I had it in my mind—‘Can I score this time?’ And I’m just glad I took the chance. Robbo [Andy Robertson] played a big role—he’s been guiding me a lot.”



He added:

> “He’s one of the best left-backs out there, and having someone like him behind me is massive. I’m still young, so I’m not rushing anything. But I do want to prove myself to the manager and keep improving.”



📝 Ngumoha is expected to sign his first professional contract after his 17th birthday in August, but his maturity and hunger are already on full display.

He’s not alone in making waves, though. Trey Nyoni, 18, also found the net in the same match and spoke about how this summer feels like a turning point in his journey at Anfield.

> “This pre-season feels different,” Nyoni said. “Last year, a lot of the senior players were away due to the Euros and Copa America, but this time we’re with the full squad. It’s a huge learning opportunity.”



He continued:

> “Rio and I have built that on-pitch connection even back in the Academy. Now it’s about stepping up and showing what we’re capable of.”
