Liverpool’s transfer activity is ramping up, and one of their top defensive targets looks to be on the verge of joining the Anfield outfit.

Talks are progressing well between the Reds and Crystal Palace over a deal for England international Marc Guehi, with the centre-back expected to be the next high-profile arrival in what’s shaping up to be a blockbuster summer at Anfield.

Guehi is seen as the likely replacement for Jarell Quansah, who is reportedly on his way to Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen. While the final terms of Guehi’s move are still being ironed out, there’s already talk of a symbolic welcome awaiting him on Merseyside.

The 23-year-old has consistently worn the No. 6 shirt since joining Palace from Chelsea in 2021. He’s also donned the same number during England duty, becoming somewhat synonymous with the shirt.

Conveniently for Guehi, that jersey is currently vacant at Liverpool. Its last wearer, Thiago Alcântara, departed at the end of the 2023/24 season. Prior to that, names like Dejan Lovren and Luis Alberto also held the number.

However, Guehi has been known to wear No. 5 too—sporting it during his time with Swansea City on loan and throughout his youth career with Chelsea and the England underage teams. Whether he sticks with tradition or picks a fresh number for a new chapter remains to be seen.
