Liverpool have made a clear statement about the future of one of their rising stars – but fans hoping to see him at Anfield this season will have to wait a little longer.
Owen Beck, the talented 22-year-old Welsh left-back, has just penned a new long-term deal with the Reds. However, his immediate future lies away from Merseyside, as he embarks on another loan journey – this time to Derby County for the 2025/26 season.
Beck has been steadily gaining experience through several loan stints across Europe, including time in England, Portugal, and Scotland. Most recently, he made 24 appearances for Blackburn Rovers in the Championship, 23 of those under John Eustace – the same manager now in charge at Derby.
It’s no surprise that Eustace has swooped in to make Beck his first loan signing since taking the helm at Pride Park. The move has been in the pipeline for some time, and Liverpool’s decision to extend the defender’s contract before approving the loan shows they still believe he has a future at the club.
Beck has already earned accolades during his time in Scotland, where he was named in the PFA Premiership Team of the Year while playing for Dundee. Speaking to RamsTV, Beck expressed excitement over reuniting with Eustace:
“We built a strong connection. He got the best out of me last season, and I believe he can help me go even further this time.”
With Andy Robertson and Kostas Tsimikas still at Liverpool, and new signing Milos Kerkez now added to the mix, Beck’s path into the first team is currently blocked – making another loan spell the most logical move for his development.
Beck now follows in the footsteps of other Liverpool players who have sharpened their skills at Derby, such as Jordon Ibe, Nat Phillips, and Andre Wisdom. If he can stay fit and continue his progress, this could be the campaign that truly puts his name on the map.
