Liverpool have reportedly opened discussions with Dominik Szoboszlai over a potential new contract extension, according to trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Hungarian midfielder, who joined from RB Leipzig, has been one of the Reds’ standout performers this season — a fact that hasn’t gone unnoticed by the club’s hierarchy.
Szoboszlai’s current deal is due to run until 2028, but reports suggest Liverpool want to secure his long-term future even further. Romano revealed the news on X (formerly Twitter), confirming earlier claims by The Athletic’s Gregg Evans, who mentioned that “preliminary discussions” were already underway.
Interestingly, Liverpool are also expected to begin fresh talks with Ryan Gravenberch, whose contract also expires in 2028. The decision highlights the club’s intent to build around both midfielders as key figures in Arne Slot’s long-term plans.
Szoboszlai’s consistency this season has been remarkable. Once viewed as under pressure following Florian Wirtz’s arrival, the Hungarian has flipped the narrative — especially after his dominant display against Real Madrid in the Champions League, where many fans felt he even outperformed Wirtz himself.
Although statistical metrics may rank him just below the top two in Liverpool’s squad, anyone watching closely would agree — Szoboszlai has been Liverpool’s best player this season.
Manager Arne Slot has also praised his work ethic and influence, particularly noting the positive impact of restoring him to his natural midfield position after briefly experimenting with him at right-back.
