Alexander Isak’s early days at Liverpool have been anything but explosive. After racking up more than 20 league goals across his final two seasons at Newcastle, the Swedish forward has found the net just once in his first six matches on Merseyside — far from the form that once made him one of the Premier League’s most feared finishers.
His struggles haven’t gone unnoticed on the international stage either. During Sweden’s crucial World Cup qualifiers against Slovenia and Kosovo, Isak failed to make an impression — a dip that many attributed to lingering fitness concerns. Before the international break, he featured six times for Liverpool in a bid to regain sharpness, but that rhythm hasn’t yet translated into goals.
Sweden’s recent 2–0 loss to Switzerland left them anchored at the bottom of Group B, and hopes were high for a revival against Kosovo. Instead, their attacking problems deepened.
In Gothenburg, Isak partnered Arsenal striker Viktor Gyökeres up front, but the duo couldn’t deliver as Sweden slipped to another narrow defeat — a result that crushed their qualification hopes.
Despite playing the full match, the 26-year-old’s numbers told a worrying story: six shots, only two on target, zero chances created, and one clear opportunity wasted.

Liverpool boss Arne Slot has urged patience, maintaining that Isak will soon rediscover his spark. Speaking ahead of the Chelsea clash, he admitted that the striker is still adjusting to the system and his teammates:

So far, Slot has avoided pairing Isak with Hugo Ekitike for long spells, giving the Frenchman more minutes due to his sharper form. The Swedish star faces a tough battle to reclaim a regular starting spot, especially with competition intensifying across Liverpool’s frontline.
Still, the manager’s confidence remains firm — and so does the club’s belief that it’s only a matter of time before the Magpies version of Isak returns.
