Liverpool and Netherlands defender Virgil van Dijk has publicly dismissed recent chatter suggesting he’s preparing to quit international football — saying those claims are simply not true.
Speaking after Netherlands’ latest match, the veteran centre-back made it clear he hasn’t made any decision to step away from representing his country. Van Dijk emphasised that he’s not thinking that far ahead and still feels he has more football left to give. His focus, he added, is on enjoying the game and making sure he and his family are happy.
Despite being one of the most capped Dutch players and a cornerstone of both club and country, the 34-year-old insists retirement isn’t on his immediate agenda. He stressed that comments attributed to him about quitting were taken out of context and that he’s not closing the door on future international appearances.
Van Dijk’s steady presence has been vital for Liverpool domestically and in Europe, and he continues to play a leading role for the Netherlands ahead of the upcoming World Cup.
