Liverpool finally got a major breakthrough in their 2–1 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers — and Florian Wirtz was at the heart of it. The German midfielder ended his long wait for a goal with a stunning strike that doubled Liverpool’s lead and ultimately helped secure the victory.
But even after a performance many would call outstanding, Liverpool boss Arne Slot didn’t stop there. Instead of just praising Wirtz’s milestone moment, Slot made it clear that one goal won’t be enough to satisfy expectations.
Speaking to the media, Slot acknowledged that while Wirtz had been playing well in recent matches, his scoring contributions had been overdue. He stressed that players are often judged on goals and assists — and that Wirtz himself would be the first to admit he needs to contribute more frequently to Liverpool’s attack.
Still, the manager was upbeat overall, noting that the goal could spark a run of form for the £100m-plus signing, who has shown flashes of brilliance even when end product was lacking.
