Colombian legend Faustino Asprilla has publicly advised Luis Diaz to consider a move away from Liverpool this summer, encouraging the winger to secure a more rewarding contract at this stage of his career.
Diaz, who still has two years left on his current deal at Anfield, has been at the center of major transfer interest. Despite Liverpool firmly rejecting a £58.6 million approach from Bayern Munich, speculation surrounding the 28-year-old’s future refuses to die down.
According to sources close to the situation, Diaz has already informed Liverpool of his openness to a transfer, though publicly he’s maintained that he’s “happy” with life at the club.
Speaking to the media during international duty last month, Diaz admitted discussions with other clubs are ongoing. While expressing gratitude for his time at Liverpool, he also made it clear that his future now hinges on what the club decides.
> “We’re talking to different clubs, which is part of the transfer window,” Diaz said. “I love Liverpool — they’ve treated me well since the beginning — but we’re just looking at what’s best for us going forward. If there’s a new deal or I stay two more years, I’ll be happy either way.”
Despite his statements of loyalty, insiders believe Diaz would be open to a move if the right offer arrives — especially as Liverpool have shown no signs of offering a contract extension or increasing his current reported wages of £140,000 per week.
Former national teammate Faustino Asprilla believes now is the perfect moment for Diaz to cash in.
> “If I were in his shoes, I’d leave,” Asprilla told ESPN. “He’s 28, and this is the time to secure a contract that reflects his true value.”
Bayern Munich, still interested after having two earlier bids turned down, are expected to return with an improved offer. Barcelona have also been linked earlier in the window, but Liverpool’s stance remains firm: Diaz is part of Arne Slot’s plans and not for sale — at least for now.
Notably, Diaz was absent from Liverpool’s squad in their first pre-season outing against Preston North End. Though he traveled with the team, his omission only added more fuel to the exit rumors.
As the summer window heats up, all eyes will be on whether Liverpool can hold onto one of their most electric talents — or whether the allure of a mega payday proves too tempting to resist.
